While Pokolbin and Lovedale attract much of the Hunter Valley spotlight, the historic town of Singleton — just 45 minutes further up the valley — rewards those willing to venture beyond the well-worn wine trail.
Nestled along the Hunter River, Singleton is one of the oldest inland towns in Australia, with a rich heritage, a strong community spirit and a growing reputation as a destination in its own right. Tree-lined streets, striking colonial architecture, and a genuine country welcome make it easy to fall in love with.
And then there's Worn Out Wares. Part award-winning café, part florist, part homewares treasure trove, this beloved family-run institution has been lovingly shaped over 18 years by owner Louise Christensen.
The seasonal menu is built around locally sourced produce from farms across the Singleton region, the coffee comes from Peaberrys roasters, and the space — with its French doors, rustic brick archways and courtyard draped in blooms — feels like stepping into someone's very beautiful home. High teas are available Monday to Saturday in the floristry space. It's the kind of place that earns cult status and keeps it.
Consider Singleton your next great Hunter Valley detour.
