Newcastle audiences are set to experience one of the most celebrated musicals of the century when the Tony Award-winning Come From Away arrives at Civic Theatre Newcastle from 7 to 15 August 2026, presented by Metropolitan Players Inc.

Based on the extraordinary true events following September 11, 2001, Come From Away tells the remarkable story of 7,000 airline passengers unexpectedly stranded in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland. As the world stood still, this tiny Canadian community opened its doors and its hearts to strangers from across the globe.

What followed was an unforgettable display of generosity, compassion and human connection.

Filled with humour, heart and hope, Come From Away has captivated audiences worldwide with its powerful reminder of the good people are capable of, even in the darkest moments. Through a vibrant score blending folk, rock and musical theatre, the show tells the stories of both the stranded passengers and the locals who welcomed them with open arms.

Running for just 1 hour and 40 minutes with no interval, the musical delivers an emotional, fast-paced theatre experience that leaves audiences inspired long after the final curtain.

Under the visionary direction of Julie Black, with sweeping musical direction by Luke Baker and dynamic choreography by Laura Dawson alongside assistant choreographer Isabella Parker, this spectacular Newcastle production brings together some of the region’s most accomplished performers and powerful storytellers for an unforgettable theatrical experience.

For Metropolitan Players Inc, the production is especially significant. One of Newcastle’s longest-running community theatre companies, Metropolitan Players, will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year, a milestone made possible through decades of local support for live theatre and the arts in our region.

By supporting Come From Away, audiences are not only experiencing an internationally acclaimed musical, but also helping ensure local theatre continues to thrive in Newcastle for generations to come.

Running for a strictly limited season at Civic Theatre Newcastle from 7–15 August 2026, Come From Away is more than just a musical. It is an uplifting celebration of humanity, community and kindness when it mattered most.
