Room on the Broom flies into Civic Theatre Newcastle this July, inviting families, schools and young theatre lovers to experience the magic of one of Australia’s most beloved children’s stories live on stage.

Based on the bestselling picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, the stage adaptation brings the popular story to life in a fun-filled theatrical adventure packed with music, laughter and imagination.

Perfect for preschool and primary-aged audiences, the production follows a kind-hearted witch and her cat as they make room on their broom for a collection of unexpected animal passengers, before coming face-to-face with a hungry dragon.

To celebrate the upcoming performance, Civic Theatre Newcastle is partnering with City of Newcastle Libraries during the Term 2 school holidays, helping introduce the story to a new generation of young readers and theatregoers through themed activities and giveaways. Families visiting participating libraries during the holidays will have the opportunity to win family passes to the show, with QR-linked displays and take-home bookmarks connecting audiences directly to the production.

Civic Theatre is also inviting local preschools and primary schools across Newcastle and the Hunter to an engaging early Term 3 excursion opportunity that supports literacy, storytelling and imagination through live performance.

“The production is a wonderful opportunity for children to experience theatre through a familiar and much-loved story. It’s imaginative, funny and heartwarming, and a great way for young audiences to see storytelling come to life on stage,” said Civic Theatre Executive Manager Leonie Wallace.

Whether it’s a child’s first live theatre experience or a favourite story revisited, Room on the Broom offers a fun and imaginative outing for families, schools and young theatre lovers alike. With three performances on Wednesday, 22 July, audiences are encouraged to book early before tickets fly away.
