The Local Women of the Year Awards celebrate visionary thinkers, everyday heroes, social advocates, and trailblazing role models who make a meaningful difference in their communities.
This year, a total of 94 inspiring women have been nominated by their local Members of Parliament as part of NSW Women’s Week (2–8 March) - a week-long celebration that empowers women and promotes gender equality across the state.
This year, Senior Constable Alison Stewart has been named the Port Stephens Local Woman of the Year for 2026.
With an extraordinary 36-year career in the NSW Police Force, Alison has dedicated her life to protecting and strengthening the community. For the past decade, she has served as the Crime Prevention Officer for the Port Stephens–Hunter Police District, where her compassionate and proactive approach has earned widespread respect.
Alison’s work extends well beyond traditional policing. She has built strong partnerships with schools, community organisations, and vulnerable families, creating safer environments and positive pathways for young people at risk. Her unwavering commitment to supporting those in need reflects the very spirit of the Woman of the Year recognition.
In addition to her policing career, Alison co-founded The Backpack Venture, a local initiative providing essential school supplies to students experiencing hardship — ensuring children can start the school year with dignity and confidence.
Alison Stewart will be formally acknowledged alongside other Local Women of the Year at an official awards ceremony in Sydney, where outstanding women from across NSW will be celebrated.
Alison’s recognition reflects not only her professional excellence, but her deep compassion, leadership, and tireless dedication to improving the lives of others.
All Local Women of the Year will be recognised during the 2026 NSW Women of the Year Awards ceremony, held at the International Convention Centre in Sydney on Thursday 5 March.
Locally, Alison will be recognised at the Port Stephens International Women’s Day Breakfast on Monday 9 March at the Murrook Culture Centre.
