Throughout my years in the dental industry, I've witnessed many advances - but few as transformative as Digital Dentistry, particularly Digital Dentures. So, what does this actually mean for you as a patient?

Let's start with one of the most common sources of anxiety: the impression process. Traditionally, making dentures has involved placing impression material on a tray and inserting it into the patient's mouth - an experience many people find uncomfortable and stressful. Gagging is a frequent response, and if there's insufficient material or the impression tears on removal, the whole procedure has to be repeated. Air bubbles captured when impressions are poured in dental stone can introduce further errors. In short, the conventional method involves many variables.

Digital Dentistry changes all of that. Rather than physical impressions, your teeth and gums are captured using state-of-the art intraoral scanning technology driven by Artificial Intelligence. Those scans are used to produce highly accurate, distortion-free printed models — and from there, your Digital Dentures are manufactured or printed with a level of precision that's not possible with traditional methods.

The advantages for patients are significant. Where conventional denture-making typically requires around seven appointments spread over several weeks, Digital Dentures can often be completed in as few as two visits. The computer-aided process - from scanning right through to manufacturing - also means a more precise fit from the very first fitting, with fewer follow-up adjustments needed.

There's also genuine peace of mind in knowing that if your dentures are ever lost or damaged, they can be remade quickly and easily without having to start the impression process from scratch. Your digital records are retained, so a replacement is truly just a matter of reprinting.

As Newcastle's first dedicated Digital Denture Clinic, Smiles On Hudson is proud to lead the way with this technology across the Hunter region. Our team is passionate about making the denture journey as relaxed and straightforward as possible — because everyone deserves to smile with confidence.
