Maitland City Council has launched the Maitland Seniors Festival 2026 program, inviting older residents to ‘Live Life in Colour’ with two weeks of activities, entertainment and opportunities to connect, running from Monday 2 to Sunday 15 March 2026.

Part of the NSW Seniors Festival and proudly supported by the NSW Government, the festival celebrates the contributions of older people and their ongoing role in the community, with a diverse program of free and low-cost events held across Maitland. Maitland Mayor Philip Penfold said the festival provides an important opportunity to recognise seniors as valued and active members of the community.

“The Seniors Festival celebrates the people who have helped shape Maitland into the community it is today,” Mayor Penfold said.

“This year’s theme, ‘Live Life in Colour’, highlights the creativity and sense of connection our seniors bring to everyday life.

“It’s also about bringing people together – helping reduce social isolation and supporting older residents to discover new interests and opportunities within our community.” A highlight of the 2026 program is Rock ’n’ Roll in Colour: Seniors Lunch & Show, returning to Maitland Town Hall on Sunday 8 and Saturday 14 March. Featuring classic hits from the 1950s and 1960s performed by Robbie & the Rockers, the event includes live music, dancing and a sit-down lunch for $10 per person.

Music lovers can also enjoy Literature Live – Almost a Star with Lonnie Lee, with the Australian music legend appearing at Maitland Town Hall on Friday 13 March from 5pm to share stories from his new book. Tickets are $15, with bookings essential.

Throughout the festival, seniors can also enjoy free entry to Maitland and East Maitland Aquatic Centre, including recreational swimming and aqua fitness classes. The full program includes a wide range of activities such as creative workshops at Maitland Regional Art Gallery, exercise and wellness sessions, library events, community talks, social gatherings and outdoor experiences, many of which are accessible and low-cost. Program copies will be available from Tuesday 3 February at the Maitland Administration Centre, Maitland libraries branches and community touchpoints.
