Hunter Water Celebrates Our Most Precious Resource This National Water Week

The Lower Hunter community is encouraged to share how they save water this Love Water Day as part of local celebrations to recognise National Water Week – 16-22 October.

The fourth annual online event this Saturday, 21 October, aims to raise awareness of ways our community makes smart water choices in their homes and businesses.

Hunter Water Managing Director Darren Cleary hopes everyone in the community will get involved.

“The theme for this year’s National Water Week is ‘United by Water’; water is fundamental to life and connects us all, and what better way for us to celebrate that than to come together and share the ways we value our most precious resource.

“We’re heading into a hot, dry summer, so this is the perfect opportunity to start working on those water conservation behaviours that we can carry through the warmer months.

“We can all make smart water choices to ensure our supply lasts longer,” he said.

Smart Water Choices are watering the garden before 10am or after 4pm, using a trigger nozzle on a hose and sweeping hard surfaces. Plenty of savings can also be made inside the home, like having 4-minute showers, waiting until full loads in the dishwasher and washing machine, and turning the tap off while brushing your teeth.

Our community’s water conservation efforts, combined with Hunter Water’s plans to significantly reduce network leakage over the next decade, form part of our Lower Hunter Water Security Plan, which will ensure our region has a secure and resilient water supply.

Hunter Water encourages the region’s schools and students to participate in Love Water Day also as we continue to work with schools to educate the next generation about water-saving behaviours and the urban water cycle.

To get involved in Love Water Day this Saturday, our community can post a photo or short video on Facebook or Instagram, tagging @ourhunterwater and using the hashtags #LoveWater and #LoveWaterDay.
