Newcastle is about to become the epicentre of rock as the legendary Foo Fighters bring their Take Cover Tour to McDonald Jones Stadium on 12 November — marking the band's very first concert in the Hunter.

The 15-time Grammy Award winners are already generating enormous excitement across the region, with the city pulling out all stops to celebrate the occasion. In a nod to Hollywood glamour, a giant FOOCASTLE sign has been erected on the hill overlooking the iconic Nobbys Beach, while a series of fan activations and tailored experiences are planned to welcome music lovers travelling from across NSW, Australia and beyond.

Newcastle is the band's fourth stop on their Australian tour, which also includes a show at Sydney's Accor Stadium, as part of a seven-city national run.

The Foo Fighters join an impressive roster of global superstars to have graced McDonald Jones Stadium in recent years — following Elton John, Paul McCartney and P!nk — in what has proven to be an extraordinary economic and cultural windfall for the region's hotels, restaurants and small businesses.

NSW Minister for Tourism Steve Kamper said the announcement reinforces Newcastle's growing status as a major event destination. "Foo Fighters are one of the world's biggest bands who will transform Foocastle and bring the Hunter to life," he said, adding that upcoming events, including the Women's State of Origin, the 2026 Rugby League World Cup and the 2027 Rugby World Cup, further cement the city's credentials on the national stage.

Minister for the Hunter Yasmin Catley was equally effusive: "International flights are landing, global superstars are arriving, and the world is finally catching on to what we've known all along — that centre stage belongs to the Hunter."

City of Newcastle CEO Jeremy Bath summed up the community mood with characteristic humour: "The good news is, even if you miss out on a ticket, pretty much all of Newcastle will still be able to hear it!"

Tickets are on sale from Wednesday, 25 February. Don't miss your chance to be part of Newcastle's biggest rock moment yet.
