This June long weekend, Morpeth Gallery will come alive with the vibrant colours of Australia’s native wildlife as part of a special exhibition to celebrate World Environment Day.
From Saturday, 7 June to Monday, 9 June, visitors can watch award winning wildlife artist Natalie Jane Parker paint at her easel and view her stunning depiction of a male Satin Bowerbird in his bower, inspired by a real-life bird on a property at nearby Brandy Hill.
The shy yet spectacular Satin Bowerbird is found throughout the Hunter Valley. Males build elaborate bowers on the ground, meticulously decorated with blue objects they collect, and the structure serves as a stage for elaborate courtship displays. The birds are notorious for their competitiveness, often stealing from rival bowers or sabotaging them altogether, but the builder tirelessly reconstructs his bower each time.
Entry to the gallery is free, and the exhibition will also feature several of Australia’s top wildlife artists, offering a rare opportunity to see the skill and passion behind their internationally renowned works. The Hunter Valley Finch Club will also return with their dazzling display of finches on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
Whether you’re an art lover, nature enthusiast, or simply looking for a unique way to spend the long weekend, Feathers and Fur has something to inspire everyone. You’ll find Morpeth Gallery at 5 Green Street, Morpeth. For more info, visit www.morpethgallery.com.au
