Women across Maitland are invited to come together this International Women’s Day to celebrate and recognise inspiring voices in the community at Maitland Town Hall.
This free event aligns with the United Nations International Women's Day theme, ‘Balance the Scales’, highlighting that every woman and girl should have the freedom to live safely, be heard and shape their own future.
The event features a panel discussion of inspiring women, including Councillor Race Barstow, award-winning writer and producer Vanessa Alexander and CEO of Carrie’s Place Jayne Clowes. The program will also include the presentation of the International Women’s Day Loretta Baker Scholarship.
Last year's inaugural International Women's Day Award recipient, Isabella Crebert, will be present to share how the scholarship supported her travels to Europe to work on her PhD.
The $1,000 scholarship is named in honour of Maitland's first female Mayor, Loretta Baker, and supports young women in Maitland pursue their goals across a range of sectors including the arts, culture, business, health, sport and more.
Maitland Mayor Philip Penfold said “International Women’s Day is an important opportunity for us to recognise the achievements of women in the Maitland community.
“Coming together provides an opportunity not only to celebrate, but also to foster connections and meaningful conversations about how we can support women in our community.”
The event will take place from 9.30am to 11.30am on Friday 6 March 2026, featuring a range of women's services information booths and concluding with a free morning tea.
