Applications now open for International Women’s Day Scholarship

Port Stephens Council is encouraging local women to apply for the 2026 International Women’s Day Scholarship, with applications open from 13 January to 13 February 2026.

International Women’s Day is held annually in March. This program offers three scholarships of $1,000 each to support women across arts, culture, environment, business, community, health and sport.

Mayor Leah Anderson said the scholarship is about recognising women’s achievements and supporting gender equality at a local level.

“The International Women’s Day Scholarship is a way for Council to acknowledge the contribution women make in our community and to help remove some of the barriers they may face when working towards their goals,” Mayor Anderson said.

“Whether it’s continuing education, developing leadership skills, growing a business idea or contributing to the community, this scholarship is about giving women practical support to take the next step," Mayor Anderson added.

The International Women’s Day Scholarship is open to a broad range of applicants across Port Stephens, aged 16 years and above including Year 12 students at local high schools, young people engaged with PCYC and youth services, women involved in business and professional networks, Aboriginal and culturally diverse community members, and community volunteers and emerging leaders.

Mayor Anderson said Port Stephens Council encourages applications from women of all ages and backgrounds.

“We know that opportunity looks different for everyone, and this scholarship is designed to be flexible and inclusive,” Mayor Anderson said.

“When women are supported to pursue their goals, it strengthens families, workplaces and communities, and that has lasting benefits for Port Stephens,” Mayor Anderson added.

The scholarship forms part of Port Stephens Council’s broader community funding and scholarship programs, which aim to support education, personal development and community leadership across the region.

Applications for the International Women’s Day Scholarship are now open and close 13 February 2026.
