Chamber welcomes relaxation of venue restrictions

The Hunter Business Chamber has welcomed the State Government’s decision to expand patronage allowed in venues such as cafes, restaurants and pubs to 50 people from June 1.

“This is a commonsense move that recognises the varying capacities of different venues and will make it viable for larger operations to open while still accommodating social distancing and hygiene requirements,” Hunter Business Chamber CEO Bob Hawes said.

“The Chamber is aware some establishments were not planning to re-open under the 10-person limit and this feedback had been given to government and they have responded quickly.

“The Chamber, through Business NSW, has been working very closely with Government Ministers and agencies to accelerate steps to get NSW open for businesses in a safe and responsible manner as soon as possible.

“Extending the limit to 50 people will significantly enhance the economic benefit, giving many venues the opportunity to not just reopen but also start generating some real revenue.

“It will also encourage people to go out and use these venues as they will be less concerned about being turned away at the door due to patronage restrictions.

“We’re also viewing this as an opportunity for the community and businesses to show they can enjoy this more relaxed environment while still complying with COVID-19 rules, which may lead to another easing of restrictions in the near term.”
