There are currently around three thousand Asian Elephants in Thailand (down from 100,000 elephants at the turn of the last century) with a total world population estimated at around 40,000 – 47,000 individuals. Research puts this number as declining at around 3 % per year! Elephant welfare has been a high priority for Elephant Hills from the start, and whereas their elephants are well taken care of and happy, they wanted to do their part in helping other elephants in Thailand; both domestic and wild populations. This is the reason Elephant Hills founded “Elephant Hills Elephant Conservation Project” over ten years ago.
