New Multicultural Community Directory to Make the Move to Maitland that Little Bit Easier

intouch Magazine

Moving to Maitland is going to be made that little bit easier with the release of the city’s first ever Multicultural Community Directory this week.

It’s been developed after feedback from Maitland’s multicultural community stakeholders, who identified that this type of guide could assist new residents with the transition to their new home and learn more about our vibrant City.

The Directory is packed full of information that will introduce new residents to everything they need to know about living, working, and playing in Maitland, and it’s been translated into five different languages for the first time.

Mandarin, Cantonese, Tagalog, Afrikaans and Malayalam are the five most common languages outside of English in Maitland, and the Multicultural Community Directory will help make the transition into a new community that little bit easier for new residents.

It contains information about Council services and how to get involved, city facilities like the Libraries and Aquatic Centres, multicultural community services, and even when and how to put the bins out.

According to Mayor Philip Penfold, it’s part of Maitland City Council’s commitment to developing new resident initiatives to welcome people to our city, and engaging and building connections with our multicultural community.

‘Maitland is one of the fastest growing cities in NSW and the demographics of our area are changing, too,’ Mayor Penfold said.

‘We celebrate and welcome anyone who wants to call Maitland their home, but we know that moving from a place where English isn’t a first language can be very challenging and very daunting.’

‘By helping to link people with facilities, services, and community groups and introduce this information in a way that’s a little more familiar, hopefully we can make that transition a little easier.’

The Directory can be accessed online, for free, by visiting mait.city/directory.
