Important first steps in the evolution of the Broadmeadow Precinct

The evolution of the Broadmeadow Precinct is poised for take-off following the finalisation of state-led rezonings and appointment of the Hunter Central Coast Development Corporation as the delivery coordination authority, Business Hunter said today.
“These are important first steps in what will be one of NSW’s most significant urban renewal and precinct creation projects in coming years,” Business Hunter Acting CEO Amy De Lore said.
“The transformation of the Broadmeadow Precinct is a 30-year vision, but it is vitally important that we start to create momentum now to attract private-sector interest to the area.
“Today’s announcements will help to generate that momentum. The state-led rezonings bring those four areas a step closer to being development-ready, while the appointment of a delivery authority provides the necessary focus on coordination and prioritisation that will be required to progressively realise the site’s potential.
“The Hunter and Central Coast Development has a strong track record for facilitating urban renewal in our region and we hope they will be sufficiently resourced and empowered by the government to lead what will be a complex precinct development task involving the coordination of multiple private and government landowners.”
Ms De Lore said the Broadmeadow Precinct offered a unique opportunity to deliver much-need housing and employment in an urban area on the fringe of the CBD, while simultaneously developing a sports, entertainment and lifestyle hub capable of attracting world-class events to the region.
“This is an area three times the size of Sydney’s new Bradfield city centre and sits three kilometres from the centre of NSW’s major regional city, so it is a significant precinct development for our region and the state,” Ms De Lore said.
“Business Hunter hopes today’s announcements, together with the earlier endorsement of the masterplan by City of Newcastle, will accelerate progress on the development of the precinct so we can ideally see new homes and infrastructure starting to be delivered within the next few years.”
