From Friday 27 August playgrounds and skate parks across Port Stephens will reopen with additional COVID-Safe measures in place.

In conjunction with the Port Stephens Hunter Police District, Council temporarily closed the facilities on Tuesday 17 August due to large groups gathering in these public spaces.

General Manager Wayne Wallis says Council has listened to the community and worked with local police to come up with a solution.

“The safety of our community is paramount. We temporarily closed these facilities to support police and manage outdoor public spaces that were still attracting large crowds.

“We’ve continued working with police and have listened to the community to find a solution that keeps everyone safe.

“From Friday 27 August 2021 anyone who visits our playgrounds or skate parks will be required to check-in and out via the Service NSW app.

“I encourage everyone to continue to follow the public health order and the COVID-Safe signage installed across our facilities so we can continue to help keep your family, friends and Port Stephens safe,” Mr Wallis said.

BBQs and shelter seating will remain closed.
