A humpback whale breaches from the ocean, creating splashes against a clear blue sky. The whale's body is white with visible textures.

Discover the wonders of the annual whale migration in Port Stephens at a free headland whale watching talk this Winter.

Whale Tales is a free event at Fingal Bay offering a unique opportunity to learn from marine conservationist Captain Frank Future of Imagine Cruises. With extensive local knowledge, Captain Future was one of the first to observe whales along the NSW coast in the mid-1990s and has been navigating these waters since the 1970s.

Mayor Leah Anderson said Whale Tales provides a unique opportunity for the community and visitors to learn about the gentle giants that pass by the Port Stephens shores at this time every year.

“I’ve heard Captain Frank Future is a real expert when it comes to whales! His talk provides the full rundown on the humpbacks migrating past our shores and highlights the marine life living right here in Port Stephens,” Mayor Anderson said.

“Everyone is welcome to come along to what’s sure to be a really insightful and engaging talk. Bring your own warm drink or snack and enjoy the incredible coastline as you soak in some amazing whale facts.

“I know these talks are always popular with locals, and having Frank come on board to deliver the event this year is pretty special,” Mayor Anderson concluded.

The Whale Tales talk will be held at Barry Park Lookout on Sunday 29 June from 10 to 11:30am.
