The Escadia Newcastle Northstars will remain atop the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) ladder for a third consecutive week after delivering two dominant double-figure wins on the road in Queensland.
The Northstars return home with the full six competition points following a thrilling 10-7 victory on Saturday night and a commanding 10-0 shutout on Sunday against Brisbane Lightning.
Romanian import Yevgeni Skachkov made an immediate impact across the weekend, lighting up the scoresheet with five goals on Saturday before adding another three on Sunday.
Santeri Haarala also starred in Sunday’s at-times fiery clash, recording a hat-trick to help keep the momentum firmly with the Northstars.
Liam Ryan, Francis Drolet, Riley Klugerman and Beau Taylor all found the back of the net across the weekend, with Drolet scoring twice on Sunday alongside goals from Ryan and Klugerman.
Backstop of the team, Northstars Goaltender Matus Trnka recorded his first shutout of the season.
The Northstars return to Hunter Ice Skating Stadium this Saturday as the series against Brisbane Lightning continues.
While the game is already sold out, fans can catch all the action live on AIHL.TV.
