Tuesday Club: A Place to Connect, Share, and Belong

Every Tuesday morning at The Place Charlestown, something special happens. For 2.5 hours, people aged 65 to 93 gather for what has become one of the region’s most loved social programs – Charlestown Square Tuesday Club Inclusive Connections. This is a community where friendships flourish, stories are shared, and laughter is guaranteed.
The program is as diverse as the people who attend. One week you might be enjoying a classic film from Hollywood’s golden age, the next you could be trying your hand at Aboriginal dot painting, listening to the beats of Senegalese drummers, or swapping seeds and plants to support sustainable living. Gentle wellness sessions, such as Chair Qigong, music, and comedy, lighten the spirit, while guest speakers and themed events spark curiosity and conversation.
Intergenerational activities have become a real highlight, with visits from local school students and daycare children bringing joy and fresh energy into the room. And the Club doesn’t just look inward – members proudly give back, whether through the Biggest Morning Tea, charity drives, or care packs for seafarers arriving in Newcastle.
Yet when you ask participants what keeps them coming, the answer is simple: connection. Many live alone or have found themselves without the networks they once had. Here, they discover companionship, a sense of belonging, and the opportunity to be part of something bigger.
As one member put it: “It’s the best social program my husband and I have ever attended.”
So, whether you want to try something new, share your own experiences, or simply enjoy a cuppa with friendly faces, Tuesday Club is waiting for you. If you live in Lake Macquarie or Newcastle, we’d love to welcome you into the circle.
