Tickets On Sale For Maitland Movie Magic

Get your swimmers and picnic blankets ready as tickets are now on sale for a range of outdoor cinema experiences coming to a suburb near you.

On Friday 8 January the movie Wonder will be showing at Max McMahon Oval in Rutherford, on Saturday 9 January A&D Lawrence Oval in Thornton will fill with the familiar songs from the 2019 movie The Lion King and family favourite Inside Out will be showing at Roy Jordon Sports Complex in Gillieston Heights on Sunday 17 January.


Gates will open at 6.00pm with movies set to start at 8.00pm. All tickets are $5 each and include free popcorn, a sausage sizzle, entertainment and lawn games.

On Monday 25 January, family favourites of Australian film are coming to Morpeth Common with Aussie Cinema at The Common.

Red Dog and The Castle will be showing on the night, with free popcorn, a sausage sizzle, music entertainment and lawn games included in the $5 ticket price. Gates will open at 6.00pm with movies set to start at 8.00pm.


To end the month of January the cooling Dive in Cinema is back at East Maitland Aquatic Centre. On Thursday 28 January classic family movie Free Willy will be showing, on Friday 29 January sing along with Moana and on Saturday 30 January just keep swimming with Finding Dory.

Gates will open at 6.00pm with free swim time for all ticket holders and lots of other fun activities including volleyball, lawn games, food, music and a pool obstacle course before the movie kicks off around 8.00pm.

In pool tickets are available for $10 and out of pool tickets for $5.

Maitland Mayor, Cr Loretta Baker says ‘it’s awesome to see Outdoor Cinemas visiting our suburbs and the return of the popular Dive in Cinemas, I can’t wait to get out to enjoy a movie and some popcorn with the community.’

A comprehensive COVID-19 Safety Plan will be in place for all Council run events and activities.

Council will continue to monitor and adhere to the advice from the Federal and State Governments, including any variation or modification of the public health orders.


The Outdoor Cinemas and Dive in Cinemas are an initiative of Council’s Make it Maitland this Summer program.
