Step into a world of high heels, high hopes, and higher spirits this December as Newcastle's Chookas Entertainment takes on its biggest stage yet….
Chookas Entertainment is set to make theatrical history when it presents the Tony Award-winning musical Kinky Boots at the Civic Theatre Newcastle from 18–21 December. This marks a significant milestone for the company—its debut production on the iconic Civic Theatre stage.
Based on true events, Kinky Boots tells the uplifting story of Charlie Price, who inherits his father's failing shoe factory and finds an unexpected business partner in Lola, a fabulous drag queen in need of sturdy stilettos. Together, they learn that the best way to fit in is to stand out.
With a joyous score by pop legend Cyndi Lauper and a heartfelt book by Harvey Fierstein, the musical has captivated audiences worldwide with its message of acceptance, self-expression, and community.

The large-scale production features a vibrant cast led by Zac Smith as Charlie Price and Tyler Chapman as Lola, with Siddha Crossley as Lauren, Brynn Hulls as Nicola, and Chris Porters as Don. The creative team includes director Maddie Watts, assistant director Theo Williams, musical director Luke Baker, and choreographers Jody Miller and Caitlin Maher.
Founded by Jody Miller, Chookas Entertainment has quickly emerged as a force in Newcastle and Sydney's theatrical scene. The company is known for its community-driven, Pro-Am approach and has produced sold-out hits including Legally Blonde, Heathers, Chicago, and Be More Chill. As a member of Live Performance Australia and CONDA Inc., Chookas operates with industry integrity while championing inclusivity and nurturing young adult performers.
With show-stopping dance numbers, glitter-filled costumes, and an inspiring story, Kinky Boots promises to be one of Newcastle's must-see theatrical events of the year.
