A snowstorm of excitement is sweeping through Newcastle as Hunter Drama’s highly anticipated production of Disney’s Frozen JR. is in hot demand—with seven performances already sold out, even before the school holidays begin!
Opening July 17 at the Playhouse, Civic Theatre Newcastle, Disney’s Frozen JR. promises a heartwarming theatrical experience for the whole family, brought to life by two exceptional casts of talented young performers and a creative team of seasoned theatre professionals.
Directed by Luke Baker with support from Assistant Director Abbey Fotheringham, musical direction by Rachel Davies and choreography by Vanessa Ambrose, this show blends heartfelt storytelling, magical design, and joyous musical theatre into one unforgettable event.
Based on the beloved Disney animated film, Frozen JR. tells the story of fearless Princess Anna and her quest to reconnect with her sister Elsa, whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter. Along the way, she encounters a cast of loveable characters, epic snowstorms, and life-changing discoveries. But more than just a fairy tale, Frozen JR. speaks to the power of sisterhood, courage, and embracing one’s true self.
“This is a story where the act of true love isn’t a kiss—it’s a sacrifice,” says Director Luke Baker. “It’s refreshing and powerful, and the students are doing an incredible job bringing that emotional truth to the stage.”
Musical Director Rachel Davies agrees. “These students are mini professionals. They’re tackling complex harmonies, navigating big vocals, and doing it all with a sense of joy and connection. It’s one of the most magical rehearsal rooms I’ve been a part of.”
From unforgettable musical numbers to dazzling stagecraft, every aspect of Disney’s Frozen JR. is being delivered with Hunter Drama’s signature care and theatrical flair.
Choreographer Vanessa Ambrose brings high energy and Disney sparkle: “Our cast is something truly special—each performer brings their own quirks and character. You won’t see another Frozen JR. like this!”
Staged in the intimate Playhouse venue, audiences can expect an immersive experience, with the action unfolding all around them. Whether you're young or just young at heart, Disney’s Frozen JR. is the perfect school holiday treat. But with several shows now sold out and others filling fast, audiences are encouraged to book now to avoid disappointment.
