Lake Macquarie City Council is poised to ‘Press Play’ on an innovative festival of activities for kids and families.

Based at the Multi-Arts Pavilion, mima, in Speers Point Park, this year’s Press Play! kicks off on the evening of Friday 23 February with a kids’ disco, Friday Night Foodies food trucks and exhibitions inside the MAP mima space.

Saturday 24 February will include a free evening art-making event, where participants will create a sea creature known as an Antarctic strawberry feather star, using recycled materials.

Sunday 25 February’s feature activity is a 10am performance of Dingo in the Dark by the St Paul’s Catholic College Aboriginal dance group. Children who attend can create their own shadow puppets as part of the show.

Manager Arts, Culture and Tourism Jacqui Hemsley self-directed art activities would also be on hand throughout the weekend to keep kids amused and stimulated.

Ms Hemsley said artist Joel Zika’s immersive Valley of a Thousand Plants projection artwork would be on display in MAP mima’s cube across the weekend.

“We’ll be activating all the spaces indoors and outside MAP mima to celebrate art in all its forms,” she said.

Friday’s kids’ disco runs 5-8pm and features DJ Jun Wan, with American street food from Dog House Grill and other fare from Harry and Lola’s Café.

The Saturday sculpture session runs 5-6.30pm. Bookings are essential.
