Graffiti on a white building wall shows a large bird with human-like arms, colorful lettering, and the text "J.R.L.F.C." A grassy area is in front.

Lake Macquarie Councillors approved a donation of $2000 to Windale Junior Rugby League Club to assist with recovery costs following a clubhouse fire at tonight’s Ordinary Council meeting at Avondale University in Cooranbong.

The facility was badly damaged in the March incident, including serious damage to the clubhouse and equipment.

The $2000 offering under the Donations Program will go toward replacing goal post pads lost in the fire.

Lake Macquarie Mayor Adam Shultz said Council had been supporting the club since the incident.

“Upon learning about the incident, Council immediately contacted the club. I visited the site with Council staff and met with the Windale Junior Rugby League Club President to discuss how we could offer support. Following our discussion, we arranged for a shipping container to be delivered to the site to temporarily house their sporting equipment,” he said.

“We have engaged a structural engineer to provide a scope of works to address what needs to be done. The damaged roof structure has been removed and some beautification of the building will be completed to blend in with repairs.

“We are continuing to liaise with the club about the assessment of their building and next steps to support the club in the long term.”

Council also adopted a new version of the Councillor Fees, Expenses and Facilities Policy.

The policy sets the principles to ensure Councillors have access to adequate and reasonable resources to enable them to carry out their civic duties.

The full agenda and reports are available at meeting agendas and minutes.

The stream of tonight’s meeting will be available online at lakemac.com.au within 48 hours.
