Performing arts is gaining momentum in Port Stephens with the arrival of a major festival on 15 March 2026. This event brings award-winning talent to the local community.

Port Stephens Council is responding to community demand for a dedicated performing arts space by trialling performances at Soldiers Point Memorial Hall. The space is already attracting touring acts and strong audience support.

A major milestone for the venue is the arrival of the Newcastle Fringe Festival. On 15 March 2026, the festival will hold its first official show in Port Stephens, bringing the award-winning children’s act The Pretty Amazing Show to the local community.

Mayor Leah Anderson said the growing program reflects clear community demand and shows confidence in Port Stephens as a cultural destination.

"The Newcastle Fringe Festival attracts talent from across the country. It's wonderful to bring artists to a dedicated space for our performing arts community and audiences,” Mayor Anderson said.

“Hosting these shows at Soldiers Point Hall helps us give everyone in our community the chance to enjoy local arts and culture,” Mayor Anderson added.

Soldiers Point Memorial Hall has been a gathering place for the local community since it was originally built in 1933 and rebuilt in 1959. The hall has recently undergone upgrades to ensure it can support professional productions, whilst keeping its historic character. These upgrades include new heaters, blackout blinds, stage curtains, festoon lighting, and an upgraded audio system.

Recent events show strong demand for live performance in Port Stephens. Mat Wakefield, Founder and owner of Comedy for a Cause, credited the Council's support and the venue’s facilities for the success of his recent shows.

“Comedy for a Cause has hosted multiple shows at Soldiers Point Hall. It’s a beautiful venue, and the fantastic team at Port Stephens Council go above and beyond to ensure every event is a success,” Mat Wakefield said.

Upcoming performances include Newcastle Fringe Festival’s The Pretty Amazing Show on 15 March 2026, and And Also, With You on 12 June 2026.

This initiative brings the Our Incredible Place strategy to life by transforming the venue into a vibrant home for performing arts in Port Stephens.
