At 6.00pm on Saturday 29 April, Tantrum Youth Arts will hold a glittering fundraising gala at the iconic Newcastle Museum to conclude their Take the Stage fundraising campaign.

Thanks to generous community support, the Take the Stage campaign has already raised over $30,000 for the Accelerate Ensemble, Tantrum's training ground for artists with disability, to create and perform their first original live stage show.

A $10,000 contribution from Beyond Bank helped kick off the campaign, and over 60 individuals have donated to the campaign so far. By the conclusion of the gala, Tantrum hopes to reach its target of $40,000.

Tantrum’s Creative Director Penelope Kentish said, “I’m really excited to bring our community together, and I'm thrilled that Accelerate Ensemble have so many supporters that want to see them take the stage.

“It’s so important to give young people with disability a platform to share their experience and their voices. And it will just be a really delightful night out!”

The gala will be hosted by the Accelerate Ensemble and feature live performances, trivia, Tantrum's famous Not-So-Silent Auction, and wrap-up with a boogie on the dance floor.

Auction items include a large print from iconic Newcastle artist Trevor Dickinson, a behind-the-scenes tour of the Victoria Theatre, a private tour of the new Sydney Modern gallery, theatre tickets both in Newcastle and Sydney, and giftpacks from local businesses Blackbird Corner, Shout Brewing and Scarborough Wines, just to name a few.

Newcastle Museum Director Julie Baird said, “We’re proud to be partnering with Tantrum Youth Arts to host the Take the Stage Gala. Newcastle Museum and Tantrum share a commitment to telling the stories of the Newcastle community, and the money raised through the gala and the Take the Stage fundraising campaign will create an opportunity to hear stories that might otherwise be left unheard.”

With thanks to Creative Partnerships Australia through Plus1, every donation made during the campaign is being matched dollar for dollar.

Supporters can still help Accelerate Ensemble take the stage by purchasing a ticket to the gala or making a tax-deductible donation at: www.tantrum.org.au/donate
