The drive through Maitland is set to be smoother this summer, with Maitland City Council investing $3.3 million to improve more than 70 local roads.
As part of Council’s 2025/26 road resealing program, more than 215,000m2 of road are being resealed across the local government area, with work kicking off in November and running until the end of April.
These works are primarily aimed at preventative maintenance, with a bitumen spray laid over existing roads to waterproof and protect them for the future.
Maitland Mayor Philip Penfold says the program is "part of our proactive approach to ensure Maitland’s roads are fit for purpose.”
“Council performs all kinds of road improvements throughout the year, but this resealing program is about protecting roads from water damage and making sure they can serve our community effectively for many years to come,” Mayor Penfold said.
Some of the roads included in this year's program are Anambah Road at Anambah, Forest Drive at Chisholm, Mount Vincent Road at East Maitland, Maitland Vale Road at Hillsborough, Ferraby Drive at Metford and River Road, Windella.
Funded by Council’s annual capital works program, these works are being completed over summer when the weather is warmer, so the new road surface can bond and adhere to the existing surface.
