Fifty-five new car spaces are coming to Maitland Park as Maitland City Council continues work on the staged delivery of the Maitland Park Master Plan.
The car park expansion will bring several improvements for pedestrian safety along Gipps Street, including a kiss and ride drop-off area, footpaths, a pedestrian crossing and traffic-calming speed humps.
Endorsed by Council earlier this year, the Maitland Park Master Plan sets out a vision for future development of the site, focusing on creating a vibrant civic space through increased play and recreational opportunities, and improved parking, pathway connections, accessibility and shade.
Local clubs, such as the Maitland District Netball Association, will benefit from the new car park, which will better accommodate participants and spectators in the 2026 netball season and beyond.
“Community consultation showed great support for increased parking, so we’re thrilled to announce that works are underway to open up more parking in a convenient location, particularly for our netball community,” Mayor Philip Penfold said.
"This expanded carpark, along with the recently completed car park at the heart of Maitland Park and the opening of a spacious lawn area set for later this year, marks just the beginning of significant improvements for Maitland Park that will enhance its citywide appeal now and into the future.”
Phase one of the car park expansion commences this week, with works expected to be completed in early April before the netball season springs into action.
