This much-loved Sondheim musical is a Broadway fable about friendship, fame, and the high price of success.
The story is told in reverse. It begins with three close friends – a composer, a lyricist and a writer - at their lowest point – jaded and unhappy despite their fame and wealth. Then, it tracks back through their lives to end up 20 years earlier, at the very beginning, when their youth, talent and enthusiasm promise to change the world.
The creative team is headed by long-term friends David Gray (director) and Kieran Norman (musical director). Choreography is by classically trained dancer Jade Shearman.
The show features three of the Hunter’s leading young music theatre performers: Zac Smith, who recently appeared in Opera Hunter’s The Last Five Years; Freddy Hellier, who was in Metropolitan Players’ Jersey Boys; and Chiara Patalano, who has a degree in Music Theatre from the prestigious Australian Institute of Music (AIM).
