A performer kneels on stage, breathing fire into the night, surrounded by a crowd. The scene is lit by warm flames and stage lights.

Maitland’s winter solstice celebration, Luminous, is heating up with a full program of light displays and interactive experiences set to transform The Levee Central Maitland on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 June 2025.

Luminous, presented by Maitland City Council and supported by The Levee Central Maitland, will transform The Levee precinct with a free program of activities for all ages, finishing with a fireworks display over The Levee Riverbank at 8pm on Saturday 21 June.

Maitland Mayor Philip Penfold says, “Luminous is a fantastic way to celebrate the winter solstice and experience Maitland in a whole new light. It’s about bringing people together to enjoy an evening of light, art and activity in the heart of our city.

“With the support of The Levee, we’re proud to deliver an event that showcases everything Maitland has to offer, from local food and wine to public art, live entertainment and interactive experiences.”

The event will feature fire and light displays, including a large fire sculpture and glowing installations like ‘Neon Prowl’, a series of glowing tiger sculptures that shift with vibrant kaleidoscopic patterns, and ‘Kindled’, an immersive light projection mimicking the flicker of a fire.

Alongside the light displays, visitors can enjoy roving performers, fire dancers and an interactive art installation that pulses with light and sound, synchronised to the beat of a live DJ.

Visitors can relax and enjoy the atmosphere at the pop-up wine bar, ‘Boydells on Bourke’, offering boutique wines and bubbles. For those looking for a tasty bite, the ‘After Dark Bites’ food trucks will serve up a variety of delicious comfort foods and warm treats.

Luminous will run from 5pm to 8pm on Friday 20 June and from 3pm to 8pm on Saturday 21 June, with free entry both days.
