SYDNEY DANCE COMPANY
A thrilling juxtaposition of beauty and devastation, Impermanence is Rafael Bonachela’s newest creation for Sydney Dance Company. This full-length work was described by ArtsHub as: “A tear-jerker without being Baroque, with a finger on the vein of our collective anxieties and dislocations, Impermanence is a triumph of collaboration and passion.” The score by contemporary composer, Bruce Dessner, is full of emotional power. Performed live on stage by the Australian String Quartet and the full might of Sydney Dance Company’s ensemble, this is an epic, driven performance that packs an emotional punch. Join Sydney Dance Company for their triumphant return to the stage and experience the power of dance and music performed live together, laden with meaning, energy, urgency, radiance and hope!
OPERA AUSTRALIA PRESENTS BIZET’S CARMEN
Enigmatic and elusive, Carmen is the femme fatale you simply cannot forget. In Bizet’s famous opera, Carmen captivates Don José with her sensual Habanera, luring him into her world. He gives up everything to follow her. But Carmen’s wandering eye has already found a new lover – the dashing bullfighter Escamillo. Don José’s jealousy is fierce. Escamillo’s passion is intense. In a gripping finale, Carmen must face her fate. Experience the thrilling Spanish colour and rhythms of Bizet’s vibrant score with Opera Australia’s singers, live chamber orchestra and a children’s chorus drawn from the local community. This new production includes gorgeous sets and vintage-inspired costumes. You can hear classics such as the Habanera and the Toreador Song just as Bizet meant them — loud, live and completely unamplified.
