Newcastle's Civic Park is about to get a lot more glamorous. From 4 September to 4 October, the iconic Spiegeltent returns with Loca Vida, a brand-new cabaret-circus spectacle from internationally acclaimed live entertainment company Strut & Fret. If you've caught Blanc de Blanc Encore, La Ronde or The Party, you already know what these guys do best: jaw-dropping talent, unapologetic glamour and a night out that doesn't play by the rules.
Loca Vida is Strut & Fret's newest creation, and it's built for exactly the kind of intimate, velvet-curtained chaos the Spiegeltent does so well. Expect big brass, sky-high kicks, exhilarating circus and a hand-picked cast of international artists at the very top of their game. This isn't a polite night at the theatre. It's seductive, chaotic and completely committed to its own glamour, and it's happening right in the heart of the city.
"We can't wait to bring Loca Vida to Newcastle," said Strut & Fret Producer Jess Copas.
"This show captures the thrill of a decadent night out, with all the chaos, glamour and electricity of live performance. With internationally renowned choreographers and an exceptional global cast, we wanted to create a show that feels cinematic, explosive and deeply immersive."
There's a reason the Spiegeltent keeps drawing crowds year after year. Originally a European travelling pavilion tradition, these mirrored, timber-framed tents have a way of making every performance feel like a secret you've been let in on. Newcastle's version, tucked into Civic Park, has become something of a Spring institution in its own right, a place where the city's usual civic backdrop gives way to velvet curtains, low light and a stage close enough that the performers might as well be in the room with you. It's the kind of venue that rewards a bit of occasion dressing and a group of friends who don't mind staying out late.
The timing couldn't be better. Loca Vida also lands as one of the headline acts in the 2026 New Annual festival program, running 25 September to 4 October, which means Novocastrians get an extra dose of the Spiegeltent magic layered into an already stacked Spring lineup. New Annual has built its identity around taking art out of conventional venues and into the spaces locals actually move through every day, so having Loca Vida anchor part of the program inside the Spiegeltent feels like a natural fit rather than a one-off addition.

New Annual Festival Director Tory Loudon says that's really the point of the whole festival: taking performances out of traditional venues and putting it directly in front of audiences, wherever they happen to be.
"Part of the magic of New Annual is the way in which it takes art to the audiences, reinventing the city's civic and coastal spaces into platforms for performance," Loudon said.
"Spiegeltent brings a vibrant theatrical atmosphere that will transform Civic Park and deliver an unforgettable live entertainment experience. I look forward to Loca Vida being one of the highlights of our 2026 New Annual program."
It's easy to see why the Spiegeltent has become such a fixture on Newcastle's events calendar. There's something about that mirrored, velvet-lined interior that turns a night out into an occasion, and Loca Vida sounds tailor-made for the space: acrobatics, choreography and a pulsing soundtrack, all happening close enough to touch. Strut & Fret have built a reputation on shows that blur the line between cabaret, circus and old school showbiz spectacle, and early buzz suggests Loca Vida leans hard into that mix.
Reviews of past Strut & Fret productions give a sense of what to expect. Theatre Haus has praised the company for delivering the kind of bold, thrilling entertainment audiences crave, while Brisbane Stage has credited Strut & Fret with setting a new standard for live entertainment altogether. If Loca Vida lives up to that track record, this could be one of the hottest tickets of the Newcastle Spring season.
Given that the show runs as a late-night experience, it's shaping up as a proper night out rather than an early dinner-and-home affair, so it's worth thinking about who you're bringing along and what the rest of the evening looks like. Pair it with dinner or drinks nearby beforehand, and you've got the makings of a full Spring calendar highlight rather than just a single ticket.
Tickets are already on sale and given how quickly Spiegeltent shows tend to sell out, it's worth locking in seats sooner rather than later. Fans hoping for the best tickets at the best prices are being urged not to wait around.
