Fireworks, food and family fun are set to buoy community spirits at a raft of local parks and foreshores when the Lake Mac Festival returns this weekend.

A Saturday evening simultaneous firework display from three barges across the moonlit lake is the highlight of a two-day program, which kicks off with a free breakfast at Thomas H Halton Park, Croudace Bay, sponsored by Carlo’s IGA Woodrising.

The morning will feature giant games, yoga, free kids’ activities by GeckoSports, local musicians, a nursery rhyme show from the Little Scallywagz and free canoeing with Canoe Academy Lake Macquarie.

Evening revellers can settle in at Rathmines Park, Warners Bay foreshore, Belmont foreshore or Swansea Bay Beach from 5pm for live music, food and entertainment, followed by the fireworks spectacle at 9pm.

Toronto foreshore will take centre stage for Sunday’s session, with family entertainment, food stalls, live music and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander demonstrations, including spear and boomerang making, from noon to 5pm.

Lake Macquarie Mayor Kay Fraser said the festival was always a highlight on the annual events calendar.

“Communities coming together around the lake to celebrate everything that makes our city a great place to live is what the festival is all about,” she said. “It brings people together, supports local business and engages people of all ages in a family-friendly environment.”

People attending the breakfast are encouraged to bring picnic rugs and reusable drink bottles to stay hydrated at water stations on-site.

The Lake Mac Festival received Regional Event Funding from the NSW Government. Visit lakemac.com.au for more information and the full program of events.
