Santa in a red suit waves happily on a sunny pathway by a river. Green trees and a "Christmas" banner in the background.

The festive season is here, and The Levee Central Maitland is coming alive with Christmas cheer, family-friendly activities, festive displays and plenty of opportunities to shop local.

Visitors and locals are invited to explore the precinct and enjoy a range of seasonal experiences, from Santa photos and Christmas mini markets to festive decorations, window displays and even posting a letter to Santa, all in the heart of Maitland.

“The Levee offers a wonderful mix of festive activities and local shopping this Christmas,” said Adam Franks, Maitland City Council Coordinator City Events & Activation.

“It’s the perfect place for families to come together and create memories. Whether you’re taking a keepsake photo with Santa, enjoying the decorations, or joining seasonal activities, there’s plenty of festive cheer to experience.” Families will have the chance to meet Santa Claus in his festive living room at The Riverlink, marked by a giant red present with a green bow. Santa photos will be available from Thursday 27 November to Saturday 20 December, with sessions running from Thursdays from 3pm to 7.30pm, and Fridays and Saturdays from 9am to 1.30pm.

The Levee Shared Zone will transform for A Merry Little Christmas, a village-style Christmas fair from 10am to 2pm on Saturday 13 December. The event will include local produce, gift stalls, festive decorations and activities, and a visit from Santa.

“The Levee is a wonderful place to discover unique gifts and explore local shops this Christmas, while supporting the businesses that help make Maitland such a vibrant community,” said Mr Franks.

From Thursday 27 November, visitors can also explore festive window displays throughout The Levee. Community members can vote for their favourite display in person via QR code or online, with one voter winning a $300 voucher to a Levee business of their choice.

Children unable to meet Santa in person can still get in touch through Santa’s mailbox at The Riverlink. Letters can be posted from Tuesday 12 November to Saturday 20 December. Parents should include a return address and phone number so Santa can respond before Christmas.
