GO NORTHSTARS!

Our Newcastle Northstars have once again come from behind to win at home in front of a sold-out crowd. A penalty-ridden game for both teams, the flow of the game was disrupted many times as they were forced into penalty kills and playing a very defensive game.

Down 0-1 at the end of the first period, the team dug deep and responded with 4 unanswered goals in the second period. Daniel Berno netting the second goal in the 2nd period, pulled the Northstars ahead and lifted the momentum for the remainder of the period.

The Bears looked to start coming back in the third with 3 quick goals but the Northstars held them out to come away with the 7-4 victory and remain at the top of the table going into the final few regular season games.

“Any time you can clinch a spot in the final four, that’s one of our goals accomplished. Any team that can put themselves in that position, that’s what you play all year for,” said Head Coach, Kevin Noble.

“With this win we overcame adversity, we battled through penalties that took us out of rhythm, so I thought as a whole I really liked our game. A lot of guys stepped up, and guys that don’t get as many minutes stepped up and I feel they all really battled and competed.”

“At the start of the year we knew what we wanted to achieve, and our first accomplishment was to clinch a spot in the finals. To do it in such a short amount of games is massive for the organisation and it sends a statement to the league that we have got the best group in the competition,” added Captain Liam Manwarring.

The Northstars will head to Canberra next weekend for a double-header against Canberra Brave, before returning home to take on the Ice Dogs on 30 July. For tickets head to https://northstars.thundertix.com. intouch Magazine is a proud sponsor of Newcastle Northstars.
