What's On | Hunter Drama presents smash hit musical School of Rock

Civic Theatre Newcastle

18-20 JULY - ON SALE NOW!

Hunter Drama is pumped to be getting its ‘rock on’ and bringing the smash hit musical School of Rock to the Civic Theatre this July. Based on the Paramount movie by Mike White and starring everyone’s favourite movie star, Jack Black, the production features new music by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and promises to be an audience favourite for young and old alike.

Directed by Lauren Harvey, part of the creative team for Billy Elliot the Musical and Aspire, with musical direction by ARIA nominee Dan Wilson, the show is based on the book by Julian Fellowes with lyrics by Glenn Slater.

The iconic Lloyd Webber score has 14 new songs created for the West End and Broadway productions, as well as the original songs from the movie, some of which are becoming rock-solidDrama's standards guaranteed to bring audiences to their feet.

The cast comprises a young ensemble of Hunter Drama emerging stars led by Hunter Drama Artistic Director, professional actor and all-round talent James Chapman, in the hilarious role of Dewey Finn, a wannabe rock star who

decides to earn an extra bit of cash by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school.

There, he turns a class of straight-A–pupils into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. But can he get them to the Battle of the Bands without their parents and the school’s headmistress finding out? School Of Rock, with

its sensational live kids’ rock band is a loving testimony to the transforming power of music.

“Get ready to rock your socks off. School of Rock is a celebration of passion, talent, and the universal language of music,” said Director Lauren Harvey.

“Our crew has poured their hearts and souls into this show, and our cast will deliver powerhouse performances that will leave audiences cheering for more.”

Hunter Drama’s production of School of Rock will take over Civic Theatre Newcastle from 18 to 20 July. Tickets are on sale now. Visit www.civictheatrenewcastle.com.au for more info.
