Blues Fest star William Crighton, country music singer-songwriter and Josh Cunningham from The Waifs are among the acts confirmed for the inaugural Live Music Lake Mac series kicking off later this month.

The series of gigs includes the evening with Crighton and Melody Pool at Warners Bay Theatre on Thursday 18 November, and Urquhart, Cunningham and local rising star Piper Butcher at Rathmines Theatre on Thursday 9 December, with further dates set down for February, March and April.

Lake Macquarie Mayor Kay Fraser said the gigs provided a much-needed boost to the city’s night-time economy following COVID, bringing home-grown talent back to local venues.

“It has felt like a long time since we’ve been able to sit back and enjoy live music,” Cr Fraser said.

“It’s so exciting to have such talented musicians confirmed now that we can.”

Lake Macquarie City Council Manager Arts, Culture and Tourism Jacqui Hemsley said the series also provided an outlet for performers deprived of work during the recent lockdowns.

“It’s great to be able to support our musicians after such a difficult year. We have so much incredible talent on our doorstep,” she said.

Crighton has previously performed to rave reviews at Byron Bay Blues Fest and other events across Australia and internationally.

Tickets to each gig are $40, including booking fee. Lake Mac Arts members get a 10 per cent discount. Go to lakemac.com.au for more information and to buy tickets.
