ASPIRE Shines a Spotlight on Creativity

2022 Aspire Production-The Cost of Wishes. Image Credit: Peter Stoop.

ASPIRE’s 2023 production follows Captain Lucy Dastoor and her swashbuckling crew as they hunt for the lost treasure of Andreas against the backdrop of an over-taxed community under the control of a greedy Governor. To find it, they’ll have to sail through storms, fight off the villainous Cutthroat Crowe and defeat the fabled Kracken, as well as prove to everyone around them that women can make some of the very best pirates.

This fun-filled adventure is designed to entertain and excite with a host of popular music that punctuates the storyline throughout, as well as some sea shanties thrown in for good measure!

This original production is written by Aspire Artistic Director Anna Kerrigan in conjunction with the young cast to ensure it is relevant to young audiences and offers cast members the opportunity to be involved in the creation of new work.

Join over 150 young performers, musicians, designers and production crew from the Maitland Newcastle Catholic Schools as they share their original production over just five fabulous performances!

Aspire is the Creative and Performing Arts Initiative of the Maitland Newcastle Catholic Schools office, and it has a strong focus on young people as creative artists. As well as the annual audition-based production, it offers programs in theatre making, songwriting, scriptwriting, choreography and design that all catholic school students can participate in.

Aspire also works with schools in the diocese to support them in their creative arts programming, supporting them to write original songs and write their own school productions, offering workshops and promoting creative and performing arts within the region.

The Pirate Code takes to the stage across five performances from Wednesday, 26 July to Saturday, 29 July, at the Civic Theatre. Tickets are selling fast, so book now at www.civictheatrenewcastle.com.au.
