A [Light] House of Stories


Since inception, Lighthouse Arts Newcastle — located on the iconic, elemental landscape of the Nobbys-Whibayganba headland — has extended an invitation to writers and artists of diverse backgrounds, age, art practice and geography to gift themselves the rare opportunity of time purely focused on creative practice. Over 450 local, national and international artists have taken up the call to create since Lighthouse Arts opened its doors in November 2021.

 

House of Stories is Lighthouse Arts’ first exhibition that celebrates and showcases writers, photographers, painters, sculptors, ceramicists, mixed media artists and more, who have undertaken a residency at this remarkable space.


Featured artists include: Anna Webster, Bridget Whitehead, Chris Byrnes, Damon Kowarsky, Diana Chester, Glenys Holmes, Hannah Massey, Helen Hopcroft, Janet Mackintosh, Jodi Vial, Leah Stevens, Leslie Duffin, Louise Faulkner, Michèle Heibel, Megan Barrass, Nina Cullen, Robin Hundt, Rod Pattenden, Steven Jankovic, Rozalie Sherwood, Mel Jhey, Melissa Murry, Dorothée Heibel, Peter Simmons, Beth Smith, Bridgit Thomas, Kim Barnes, Vanessa Turton, Aksara Harriram, Ronald Atilano, Kathryn Lean, Alison Miller, Suzie West, Claire Thomas, Penny Wilson, Deanah Allen, Abi Sparks, Susan Thomas, and Elizabeth McDonald.


House of Stories is located at Nobbys-Whibayganba Headland and is open to the public Saturdays and Sundays, 10am — 4pm, from Saturday 9th December 2023 to Sunday 4th February 2024. Admission is free. Learn more at https://lighthousearts.org.au/events/


On Saturday 9th December, Lighthouse Arts is hosting an Open House event from 11am – 1pm where the public and meet the artists involved in the exhibition.

Lighthouse Arts Newcastle is a multi-arts activation of the cottages on Nobbys-Whibayganba Headland that supports region’s unique creative arts culture. Lighthouse Arts offers writers and artist residencies, an exhibition space and an arts trading store. Lighthouse Arts is an initiative of Hunter Writers’ Centre with support from Newcastle City Council and Port Authority of NSW.
