$1000 Youth Week grants up for grabs in Lake Mac

Grants of up to $1000 are on offer in Lake Macquarie for Youth Week 2021 events and activities.

Lake Macquarie City Council is offering the funding to eligible organisations for events and activities staged as part of the annual national celebration of young people, to be held in April 2021.

Lake Macquarie Mayor Cr Kay Fraser said the grants were available to any incorporated non-profit organisation hosting Youth Week activities or events within Lake Macquarie aimed at young people aged 12-24.

“Youth Week is an opportunity for young people to express their ideas and views, act on issues that affect their lives, and create and enjoy activities and events,” Cr Fraser said.

“It’s important that young people in Lake Mac have the opportunity to be part of it.”

Events and activities that achieve outcomes identified in the Lake Macquarie Youth Strategy, such as improving access to services for young people or ensuring they have the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the community, will be highly regarded for funding.

Cr Fraser said past Youth Week grants had helped fund a variety of events, including music competition, sport and fitness session along with a cooking competition.

“We are keen to support a diverse array of fun, inclusive activities and events that engage and activate younger people throughout the City,” Cr Fraser said.

Grant applications can be lodged online at lakemac.com.au/youthweekgrants before 5pm Thursday 17 December 2020.

A grants committee will meet in early January 2021 to review applications, with recommendations for funding going before Council in February 2021.
