Multimillion dollar tourism project CEDAR MILL gets DA approval

Newcastle based developer Winarch Capital has announced today their CEDAR MILL project at Morisset is set to move to development stage after securing development approval with Lake Macquarie Council.

CEDAR MILL which is located on the old Morisset Country Club site will become an iconic family, tourism, cultural and event space with the aim to open in September 2021.

Winarch Founder, Paul Lambess said our goal has always been to create a space that the entire community can use.

“We submitted 6 separate development application and 5 have now been approved. These include a lifestyle village to be built by Ingenia featuring 427 dwellings, A Tourist Park with capacity for 252 camp sites and 48 cabins, restaurant, café and Australia’s largest water splash pad.” Paul said.

“Our sixth DA for the event space is on track and we are working with Transport for NSW on fine tuning modelling to achieve a positive outcome. I’d like to acknowledge the diligence and hard work of Lake Macquarie Council with this project, they have been amazing.”

“We know this project will deliver on council’s objectives of seeing Morisset recognised as a strategic economic centre.” Paul added.

The focus on Stage 1 will see a $10 million refurbishment of the existing club house which will be transformed to include a provedore market, an indoor-outdoor café with capacity for 336 people, a restaurant and function room with capacity for 120 people.

CEDAR MILL General Manager Kyle McKendry said the community space will be the perfect venue for family gatherings, weddings entertainment and community events.

“Stage 1 will span across 5ha, of which 4ha will be gardens including a children’s maze, we will grow fresh produce on site to be used in the café and restaurant. There will be a petting zoo, outdoor play area and of course the $2 million water splash pad, which the kids will love,” Kyle said.

“Once we are up and running, we will also look to develop educational experiences by engaging with the local schools to tour and participate in activities in the gardens.”

The benefits of the CEDAR MILL project will also flow beyond the site boundaries with a $5million upgrade to the Dora Street / Mandalong Road roundabout moving from single lane to dual carriageway.
