Car park improvements to drive better commuter access to Fassifern station
Work is underway on $520,000 of improvements at the popular Fassifern station commuter car park that will provide better access for local commuters.
Lake Macquarie Mayor Cr Kay Fraser said the improved car parking spaces will help to meet the continued demand for parking at the station and ensure people can easily access train services.
“While COVID-19 has seen less people commuting as they continue to work from home, transport is crucial to our future as a growing regional City and we want to make it as easy as possible for people to come here and move around the Hunter and beyond,” said Cr Fraser.
“We know that Fassifern is a highly used station to access our transport network, so it is great that we can work together with Transport for NSW to improve the car park for the benefit of our community.”
In addition to the car park works, the bus layover at the station is receiving a much-needed addition, with a new bus shelter also planned. Residents and commuters can expect minor disruptions while the work is completed in stages, however this will be minimised as much as possible.
The resurfacing and works on the bus shelter are expected to finish in September, weather permitting. The upgrade is jointly funded by Lake Macquarie City Council and Transport for NSW.
