Be part of Lake Mac’s thriving performing arts and cultural scene

Volunteers and experienced contractors have the opportunity to join the growing performing arts and cultural scene of Lake Mac, with Lake Macquarie City Council calling for expressions of interest and volunteer applications. Contractors skilled in front-of-house duties, theatre production and exhibition installation, as well as event technician contractors, are being sought.

So too are volunteers for the soon-to-be-launched Rathmines Heritage Centre located within Rathmines Theatre.

Council’s Arts, Cultural and Tourism Manager Jacqui Hemsley said the opportunity would provide work for successful contractors during a difficult time for many in the arts industry.

“The arts industry has been hit hard by the pandemic with the closure of many facilities across the State,” Ms Hemsley said.

“This is an opportunity for contractors to be part of a reinvigorated performing arts and cultural scene here in Lake Macquarie as we begin to reopen our doors.”

Contractors will have the opportunity to work across several facilities in Lake Macquarie, including the Museum of Art and Culture, Warners Bay Theatre and the recently refurbished Rathmines Theatre.

“What was previously Rathmines Community Hall has been transformed into a multi-purpose community, cultural and performing arts centre,” Ms Hemsley said.

“We are completing the finishing touches to this reinvigorated facility this month, and expect to launch the upgraded venue in late July.”

The Rathmines Theatre works, funded by the NSW Government and Council, included an internal fit-out, new and upgraded bathrooms, new kitchen, rehearsal spaces and meeting rooms, upgraded audio and visual equipment, improved ventilation, disabled parking and accessible ramp, and new landscaping.
