THEATRICS GALORE at Newcastle Theatre Company
There’s some excitement to be had this coming year for Newcastle Theatre Company. NTC is a volunteer-based community theatre company that has been producing top quality theatre for over sixty years, and that’s not going to change in 2020. After a difficult 2019 when the company faced closure after receiving a bill of $100,000 for essential fire compliance work, patrons and the wider community rallied magnificently, and a state government grant was won, ensuring that NTC will be wowing audiences for another year, and well into the future. The local gem in the heart of Lambton hasn’t missed a beat on stage, or off, and is fighting fit for their next season, announced last month at their much anticipated, and handsomely attended Season Launch.
No matter what you like, there is something on at NTC next year that’s sure to grab your interest. From beloved classics such as Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Nile and the powerfully moving Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling, to the “true crime” story Daughters of Heaven set in 1950's Christchurch, and a gritty gangster thriller The House of Bernarda Alba, exploring the grimy underbelly of a steamy Melbourne summer. Perhaps you’d like a laugh? They have you covered there too! The musical romp A Comedy of Tenors, the charming romance Barefoot in the Park and Glorious, a true tale of Florence Foster Jenkins, “the worst singer of all time”, will have you in stitches and begging for more.
And what theatrical season would be complete without a Christmas comedy? Get your family and friends together for A Hit and Miss Christmas, a new work by local playwright Emma Wood.
