Newcastle Regional Show

intouch Magazine

Well known and respected Newcastle Lawyer, Peter Evans OAM, has been elected President of the Newcastle Agricultural, Horticultural & Industrial Association Inc, the organisers of the annual Newcastle Regional Show.

Mr Evan has replaced Lauren Haskins who stood down after one year as President. Mr Evans said he was ‘delighted and honoured to have been elected President.’ ‘It’s a challenging role and the show has a mandate to bring the country to the city and we look to strengthen our focus on agriculture and rural activities as well as profiling the Hunter’s industries in years ahead’.

Mr Evans has served on the Board of the Show Association since 2012 and is the 21st President in the Association’s 119-year history.

2018 saw the best show in over 10 years and much of that can be attributed to a strategy to reinvigorate the show. ‘We brought back some old favourites like the Rodeo, Tentpegging, woodchopping and demolition derby which all proved to be very popular’, Mr Evans said. We also introduced new features like Cyclocross and the Country Concert which complimented the perennial favourites like the agricultural display, animal Nursery, campdraft and fireworks’, he added.

Plans for the 2019 show are advancing well with the best showbag suppliers in Australia already locked in. The best fireworks outside the Sydney Royal will light up the sky on Friday and Saturday nights. Rodeo will return on the Saturday night and along with the Demo Derby on Sunday afternoon. The 2019 Show will be held on 1-2-3 March, 2019 - look out for the full program information in our February issue!
