Trade Deals and Dumplings at NEWCASTLE CHINA WEEK
Dragon Dances, Chinese performers, Chinese workshops, dumplings and trade deals will all be on the menu during this year’s 2015 NEWCASTLE CHINA WEEK which will take place from 28 SEPTEMBER TO 4 OCTOBER in locations throughout Newcastle.
The organisers of last year’s Newcastle's China Festival were completely overwhelmed with the response to the inaugural event with the 2014 event attracting over 20,000 participants – transforming Hamilton’s Beaumont Street into our very own Chinatown.
Presented by the Confucius Institute at the University of Newcastle, Hamilton Business Chamber and The City of Newcastle, this year's event has grown into the 2015 Newcastle China Week and will showcase the growing cultural, social and economic relations between China and the Hunter Region through a program of educational, cultural and business events.
The Newcastle China Business Forum will be held at Watt Street Arc from 8:00am until 12:30pm on Thursday 1 October and will provide an opportunity for local businesses to explore engagement with China.
On Sunday 4 October, Beaumont Street will be treated to an Asian feast of entertainment with performances that include a visiting performance troupe from China, Lion Dances, Dragon Dances, stilt walkers and local Chinese performers mixing it up with Chinese-themed food and street stalls.
Other activities include hours of fascinating demonstrations and hands-on workshops showcasing and celebrating all things Chinese.
Highlights will include Chinese language, knot tying, paper folding and Tai Chi workshops. Traditional Chinese dance and musical performances will entertain the crowd while kids large and small can enjoy chopstick competitions, dumpling making and of course a ping pong competition.
