Sell-out show 100 Years of the History of Dance hits Lake Mac

intouch Magazine

A theatrical, funny and sell-out show about a schoolboy who explores the lives of influential choreographers from Gene Kelly and Martha Graham is coming to Lake Macquarie’s Warners Bay Theatre, baramayiba.

100 Years of the History of Dance is told by one-man in 60-minutes and features Queensland actor Trent Sinclair in the role of Jacob.

Lake Macquarie City Council Performing Arts Officer Melanie Stanton said the play would bring a high calibre of theatrics to the city.

“We’re so excited to host two sessions of the play, which sold out in Brisbane in 2019 and again in Perth in 2020,” Ms Stanton said.

“The show ends with an audience finale, showing that dance isn’t a foreign concept – it’s for everyone.”

Director Emma Canalese and co-writer Joseph Simons started developing the play in New York City’s Roundabout Theatre Rehearsal Studios in 2017 before taking to London and Brisbane, where design elements were introduced.

Co-writer Joseph Simons said it was thrilling to see the show have great success in Australia.

“Both the director, Emma Canalese, and I are from regional NSW so we are thrilled to have the play seen by regional audiences at Warners Bay Theatre,” Mr Simons said.

“Whether you love dance or don’t know the first thing about it, this show is for you!”

100 Years of the History of Dance is supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW.
