A groundbreaking new facility is set to transform the accessibility of medical research in regional NSW, with Novatrials opening Australia's first purpose-built Phase I clinical trials unit outside metropolitan areas. Located at the state-of-the-art Charlestown Healthcare Hub on the Pacific Highway, this world-class facility represents a significant milestone for both the Hunter region and the future of Australian medical research.

Phase I clinical trials serve as the crucial first step in testing promising new medicines in humans. These meticulously regulated studies focus on determining the safety, appropriate dosage, and potential side effects of emerging therapies that could one day save countless lives. Until now, patients and volunteers in regional areas often faced the burden of travelling to major cities to participate in these vital research programs.

The new Charlestown unit addresses this gap with impressive infrastructure designed specifically for clinical research excellence. The facility features 31 overnight beds for participants requiring extended monitoring, an on-site laboratory that ensures rapid sample processing, and a dedicated pharmacy for precise medication management. Additional features include modern consulting rooms, a specialised infectious disease room for enhanced safety protocols, and a comfortable infusion lounge where participants can receive treatment in a relaxed environment.

According to Novatrials CEO Amanda Koegelenberg, the new facility represents the company's dedication to advancing medical research while prioritising participant care and regional development.

"Opening this purpose-built facility demonstrates our commitment to bringing world-class clinical research opportunities directly to the Hunter community," Ms Koegelenberg said.

"We're investing in the future of healthcare in the region by strengthening its robust medical research ecosystem and creating opportunities for local residents to participate in potentially life-changing research."

For the Hunter region, this development signals a new era of medical innovation and cutting-edge research. The facility not only provides local access to experimental treatments but also positions the region as a significant player in Australia's clinical research landscape.

Novatrials is actively recruiting volunteers for various clinical research studies, including healthy volunteers for upcoming Phase I trials. These studies provide participants with the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to medical advancement while receiving comprehensive medical monitoring and care from experienced research teams.
