The Northstars have had a convincing win at home on Saturday defeating the visiting Canberra Brave by four goals.

Opening the scoring Drolet with two quick goals set the momentum up for the home team carrying it through to the break.

Canberra came out strong in the second but it was the Northstars game after scoring three unanswered goals at the tail end of the game.

The Northstars successfully defended all penalty kills tonight, Head Coach Kevin Noble shared, “We worked a lot on penalty kills before the game talking about it in the video replays, all preaseason and go through it in drills and for us we talk about how we have to win battles in special teams and we did that tonight.”

Under Coach Noble the Northstars have been working on playing full 60 minute games and not giving up periods to the opposition. Coach Noble shared “In my three years here with the Northstars that’s about the most buy in that I’ve seen in terms of structure, attention to detail and trying to play the right way. As a group it’s never going to be perfect, the other team puts their gear on and show’s up so there are going to be mistakes but the guys battled so hard tonight, they competed and they laid it all out on the line.”

Northstars Import and Forward Francis Drolet was announced as an Alternate Captain for this season with the departure of Paddy Ward from the line-up. Scoring 3 goals, he played an instrumental part in the teams success tonight.

“It’s nice to have the acknowledgement of being an alternate captain but we have a bunch of leaders in the room and everybody knows who they are. It’s about showing up on and off the ice and do what you need to do.” Shared Drolet.

“With three goals in the first game against Canberra, it feels like a great start to put on a show for the fans. When I play, I aim to score, but sometimes, I just shoot as hard as I can and hope for the best, and it worked tonight. It’s a big momentum shift when you score on the powerplay, and then the crowd really gets into it with us.” Continued Drolet.

We look ahead to next week when we head down to Erina on the 13th to play the Rhinos, and on Sunday 14th welcome the Sydney Ice Dogs to Hunter Ice Skating Stadium. Book your tickets now!
