Maitland Heritage Fest 2022

Contemporary Maitland is a product of its rich past, from Indigenous communities dating back thousands of years, the arrival of the cedar getters, conflict, European settlement, land grants to the rapid growth of agriculture and commerce.

Maitland Heritage Fest 2022 brings together many of its local organisations, businesses and individuals to share, celebrate, and promote Maitland’s history with displays, activities, entertainment, demonstrations and food.

The two-day community event runs from 10am until 3pm over two days on 18 and 19 June in the Church Street Precinct, Maitland, and other venues around the City. With such a diverse range of activities, the event will be of interest to all, with activities for family groups, historians, home renovators, mature attendees and fun activities specifically for children.

The programme includes heritage walks and house and church bell tower tours ($5 per adult). Local historians will be on hand to inform about Maitland’s rich architecture, its notable residents, pubs, churches and events.

Representing the 19th century at the festival will be Sanjex Seratti and other characters from the Newy Steampunks crew. Sanjex’s character is loosely based on a late Victorian age Steampunk navigator, and his curious engineering nature can be seen in his vintage games and steampunk contraptions.

The festival is overseen by the Maitland Regional Museum and planned by a committee formed by Maitland’s heritage and community groups and interested individuals. Visit www.maitlandheritagefest.org.au for more information and to book a ticketed event.
